LEADERS UNDOING LEADERS (a case study of Nigeria) part 1

I hold a belief that 99% of the world’s problems and crisis is as a result of leadership failure and ineptitudeness on the part of our leaders. Gone are the days when we have selfless, honest, God-fearing leaders, the world has gone sour and rotten reeking of corruption, social vices and moral ills. Our fathers, mothers, mentors and role models cannot absorb themselves from this ills.
The attendant Effect? Without the thoughts of tomorrow and being power drunk and wealth intoxicated, our so-called leaders have sent the future of Nigeria into exile, the future of Nigeria is on the brink of extinction. When I say the future of Nigeria , I mean the future leaders, the ‘leaders of tomorrow’( it remains to be seen if they would be). We know them as the ‘’YOUTHS’’.
Often times, we are familiar with phrases such as ‘this jet-age generation has nothing to offer’ , ‘’the youths nowadays have no focus or direction, they are only after quick ways of making money’. Ok!! To a large extent the above phrases hold water , because the youths themselves lend credence to it, they have overtime shown they are probably clueless and have nothing to offer.( so it seems)
However, in as much as we are quick to cast aspersions on these set of people, maybe we need to be reminded that the ideas and values which they hold today which makes them look so seemingly useless is a direct result and function of some certain issues around them..
Looking at Nigeria through the microscope, we have a system that preaches corruption, advocates quick and unclean means to wealth, a society that shuns hardwork, honesty, endurance and perseverance. These ills are fuelled by leaders whose pot-bellies are pregnant with anti-progress tactics and moral ills. These same set of leaders have turned the system into some sort of rat race, where everyone is struggling to get their own share of the national cake( everyone wishes to contest for a political post or know a politician), caution has been thrown to the wind. Who cares about morals anymore? A system whereby you have to bribe your way through everything to get it working or get people to do their rightful duties. Our leaders kill, maim to acquire what they desire.
Ok, fast-forward , the said leaders forget the Yoruba adage that says( when horses gallop, the horse at looks towards the horse at the front for direction), our leaders are either fathers, mothers, sisters, uncles and elected leaders to the youth of this nation, so what then are you expecting from them? The youths are not blind or deaf, they are extra sensitive to happenings around them. You would never value virtues and morals when you are raised in a system that shuns it.
Our future is at stake, we cannot but agree that the remote cause of the societal ills lies with the leaders, our leaders in the home, schools, our religious leaders and the secular world at large have failed the youths. The youths are well-armed with the knowledge that you have to circumvent the law and virtue to move up the ladder. Some are even outdoing our leaders in corruption (atleast a son must do better than the father)

Enough of the leaders hiding under the shield of not being able to entrust our youths with the affairs of this country( in the real sense of it, the leadership and exemplary qualities in these youths was undone and put to death by their moral ills). The youths are the pride and strength of any nation. If Nigeria must fulfill its dreams and aspirations, it must learn to start doing things right, showing the youths way of virtue and truth( as pointed out in the 2nd stanza of the national anthem), we must promote the need for hardwork, excellence, ethics and good morals. Nigeria must rise and start investing in its youths. The developed nations have their youths well-placed in key sectors of their economy. A food for thought for our leaders……. You would not be there forever, how do you want to be remembered? How would posterity judge you? Like it is said
A good name is desirable than great riches
To be esteemed is better than silver and gold’(prov 22 vs 1)

Let’s not put fire on our own roof. The future looks bleak and damaged, when there is life, there is hope, with God all things are possible, I believe it is not too late. The future of Nigeria could still be put back on track. All hands should be on deck. Together we can make it.
LONG LIVE OUR LEADERS!
LONG LIVE OUR FUTURE LEADERS!!
LONG LIVE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!!!
